Thanks for trying SoundMasterDb. This file tells you how to install
the program and get started using it.
Installation
The disk that you received contains compressed files which the
installation routine expands and copies to your hard drive or a
second floppy drive.
Hard Drive Installation
(1) Insert the SoundMasterDb disk into drive A or B. You should be at
at your hard drive command prompt (C:\>) or any other hard drive
letter designation. (2) Type A:INSTALL or B:INSTALL. (3) Follow the
on screen prompts and the program will be automatically installed on
your hard drive. If you downloaded the program from a BBS. You can
install the program from your download directory, by typing INSTALL
and following the on screen prompts. *NOTE* Press the ENTER key
after performing step 2 above.
Floppy Disk Installation
(1) Obtain a formatted disk or format a disk to place the program
files on. (2) Place the program disk in drive A or B. (3) Place the
previously formatted disk in the opposite drive. (4) Log on to the
drive that has the program disk, if it is in drive A, you should see
the A:\> prompt. (5) Type INSTALL and press the ENTER key. (6)
Follow the on screen prompts. *NOTE: You must use a directory name
when eventhough you are installing on a floppy disk. You should
except the \SOUNDM default provided by the installation program.
Start-Up
Hard Disk Start-Up
(1) Log onto the hard disk drive that contains your COMMAND.COM file,
normally this will be drive C. (2) Type SM and press the ENTER key.
The program will then load and you will see the shareware registration screen.
(3) Press the Space Bar to by-pass the shareware screen. Next the
File Selection Screen is displayed. You should see SAMPLE1.DAT and
SAMPLE2.DAT displayed if this is the first time operating the
program. (4) To load one of the sample files, move the cursor over
SAMPLE1.DAT and press ENTER. (5) To create your own file, skip step
4, and press the F2 function key. (6) Enter any valid filename at
the prompt displayed and press ENTER. The next time you start-up
the program the filename you created will be displayed on the File
Selection Screen.
NOTE: If your computer locks-up after the first screen is displayed,
re-boot your computer and type SOUNDM/K to start.
Floppy Disk Start-up
(1) Place the program disk created earlier in one floppy drive, A
is used in the example and a formatted disk in drive B. (2) At the
A:\> prompt, type SM and press the ENTER key. The program will
load and you will see the shareware registration screen. (3) Press
the space bar to by-pass the registration screen. Next the File
Selection Screen is displayed. (4) To load one of the sample files,
(if SAMPLE1.DAT is not displayed, press the ENTER Key), move the
cursor over SAMPLE1.DAT and press ENTER. (5) To create your own file
skip step 4. Press and hold the Control (Ctrl) key and then press
the B key, now release both keys. This will log you on to floppy
drive B and then perform steps 5 and 6 under Hard Disk Start-Up.
NOTE: If your computer locks-up after the first screen is displayed,
re-boot your computer and type SOUNDM/K to start.
On-Line Manual
NOTE: The On-Line Manual (SOUNDM.MAN) can only be printed correctly
from inside the SoundMasterDb program. Printing the manual is
explained later.
In addition to the context sensitive help that can be accessed by
pressing the F1 function key, the complete SoundMasterDb manual
can be accessed on line by pressing the F1 function key twice.
Once the manual is displayed on line, you can display the table of
contents, the index, move around the manual and print the manual
if desired. Press F1 again to display help specific to the On-Line
Manual.
